Java Persistence defines LockModeType.READ for the same purpose, and the EntityManager also has a lock() method. The specification doesn t require that this lock mode is supported on nonversioned entities; however, Hibernate supports it on all entities, because it defaults to a pessimistic lock in the database. The Hibernate lock modes Hibernate supports the following additional LockModes:

A couple of bells and whistles about <sound> are the duration and loops attributes. If source is a directory rather than a file, a file is randomly picked from that directory. Deploying and testing the library We are now at the testing and local deployment stage. We can test using JUnit, as usual, with a bit of planning. Designing the test The first test should be that the library loads and the method returns. A second test can verify that the clock count increases each call. With some knowledge of expected round-trip times it would be possible to verify that the round-trip time is in a sensible range; this could be added for a regression test in the future, but is vulnerable to changes in Java run time behavior. A third test can call the target repeatedly to determine the overhead of the call itself after the JIT has optimized everything. This number can be subtracted from any real performance measurements to give accurate measurements.

LockMode.FORCE Force an increment of the objects version in the database, to indicate that it has been modified by the current transaction. Equivalent to LockModeType.WRITE in Java Persistence.
